Southern Grove plans east London PBSA project

UK: Southern Grove has revealed plans for a £55 million mixed-use student PBSA project in Hackney Wick.

The developer says the scheme will turn the area into “one of the most vibrant off-campus communities in London”.

The 200-plus-bed scheme will be built on the site of the former John Broadwood & Sons piano factory on Fish Island, and will include 27,000 square feet of commercial space, coworking facilities, a gym and space for pop-ups and creative workshops.

The development, designed by architects Henley Halebrown, will retain features such as the factory’s chimney and boiler house.

Southern Grove acquired the site near Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this month with Hillstone Group acting for the developer.

Southern Grove’s joint venture sister company Future Generation, is developing The Vogue, a 330-bed mixed-use student scheme on an adjacent site. The Broadwood Piano Works will be built as a second phase.
