UK: Staycity has closed its Arcadian Centre property in Birmingham, moving guests to another aparthotel in the city.

Guests were given letters telling them they would be moved to the company’s Newhall Square venue yesterday and that the Arcadian Centre property would be closing until further notice.

There is no suggestion of any illness at the site. Staycity spokeswoman Linda Pettit said: “Occupancy has gone right down so it makes sense to run one property instead of two. We have another property in Newhall Square. We are utilising staff in the most effective way.”

The letter said: “Due to the impact of Covid-19 (coronavirus), Staycity will be closing our Arcadian Centre site until further notice. Therefore you will be required to transfer to our Birmingham Newhall Square property on Monday, March 16. We are more than happy to arrange taxis transport you over or can arrange for your luggage to be sent to Newhall square for your arrival later. If you would prefer not to transfer to our Newhall Square property, we can arrange a full refund for the remainder of your stay. Please let us know of any assistance we can offer, and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
