UK: A historic Preston pub will be the centrepiece of a serviced development if planners give it the green light.

The Grade II Listed Unicorn on North Road, which closed in 2017, is set to be turned into apartments, with a new apartment block to be built immediately behind it.

Developer HMV North Ltd is proposing to build a three-to-five storey block called Unicorn Hall, which will include 121 serviced apartments and a roof terrace.

The pub will be refurbished and converted into five flats on the first floor and a communal area on the ground floor. All 126 units will have a maximum occupancy of 90 days.

Councillors are expected to approve the project. In a statement planners said: “The principle of the proposed development is acceptable and would not result in any unacceptable impacts on visual amenity, nor residential amenity.”

The development would also cause “less than substantial harm” to the historic pub and should therefore be approved.
