UK: Tom Smyth, owner of Dream Apartments, has donated £12,000 to the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Belfast, during 2019.

Smyth recently donated and delivered more than £1,000 of toys to unit. “I have really enjoyed my time working with the Children’s Cancer Unit and it means so much to me personally to be able to bring a little happiness to these children and their families at Christmas at the hardest time of their lives. As a father of two, I wanted to give something back and to do my bit to contribute to a charity that does so much vital work and who rely 100 per cent on donations from the public,” he said.

“During my visit in 2018 to the unit I was shocked to learn that the charity don’t get any funding whatsoever from local government, they rely solely on donations. I made it my pledge to donate what I could to the charity throughout 2019, and I will continue to do so for 2020. I would like to make a fresh appeal to our local decision makers to take notice of the work of these fantastic people who work so hard on behalf of these children and their families, and to make urgent grant money available,” added Smyth.

He concluded: “I will continue to work alongside the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity to help put them on the radar of our local MLAs and MPs and to donate much-needed funds.”

The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity exists solely to support the work of the Children’s Cancer and Haematology Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and their families.

The toys and presents donated by Dream Apartments will be distributed to the children who are spending the Christmas period in hospital whilst fighting cancer.

Jacqueline Wilkinson, from the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity said: “For the second consecutive year, the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity would like to thank Tom and Dream Apartments for their generous support over the past 12 months. We truly appreciate all the support we can get from organisations like Dream Apartments and business people like Tom who help us to support the work of our incredible medical team who deliver the highest quality of care to our young patients.”</p
