US: The first structural steel for the hotel tower at Lexington’s CentrePointe development was put in place this week.

Crews placed the steel for the tower on the corner of West Vine and South Upper streets on Thursday. The tower willbe home to a 230-room Marriott hotel and a 120-room extended stay Residence Inn.

Construction of a 12-storey office tower on the Kentucky site began in November.

The CentrePointe project was originally announced in 2008 by developer The Webb Companies, but has been beset by delays. Both towers are being being built on top of a recently-finished three-storey underground parking garage.

The hotel tower is expected to be finished this summer, with the office tower to follow in November.</p
