UK: A 30-key aparthotel is set to open in the centre of Scunthorpe after a £400,000 redevelopment of the town’s former Conservative Club.

Called 42 Apart Hotel, the the historic building on Doncaster Road, is in the final stages of conversion and is expected to be open by mid-April.

When finished, it will also have a café which will be open to the public, as well as meeting facilities.

The original planning application outlined how it would have 15 en-suite rooms on the ground floor, 10 on the first floor and two on the second floor, with communal facilities including kitchens, lounges and dining areas on both floors.

Awaias Riaz, the managing director of the property, said: “We are launching a 30 bedroom apartment-hotel with mixed bedrooms and studio suites on Doncaster Road in Scunthorpe, opposite The Baths Hall. The hotel will be called 42 Apart Hotel. Development is nearly complete and we will have a functioning café open to the public inside, alongside meetings facilities. We should be creating around seven or eight jobs which include front of house, receptionist, hotel manager, café staff, housekeepers, kitchen staff and maintenance people. We will definitely be opening by mid-April, hopefully a little before then.”

The building, which has been empty since January 2013, opened as the Conservative Club in 1935 and included the former Campbell’s dance hall on the first floor, which was a popular meeting place for Scunthorpe teenagers in the 1950s and 60s.

A number of proposals have been considered for the building over the years.
