UK: The UK is set to see an extra 2,000+ serviced apartment units open in 2018, representing a nine per cent increase on current stock.

New openings this year include the launch of Staycity's first Wilde aparthotel in London (106 units), Cycas Hospitality's Staybridge Suites Manchester (116 units) and Residence Inn London Kensington (315 units), SACO's Whitworth Locke in Manchester (160 units), Lamington's Room2 property in Southampton (71 units) and Supercity Aparthotels' The Chronicle in London (53 units) and Queens Square in Brighton (65 units).

A sentiment survey of the UK sector in November 2017 undertaken by ASAP and Savills confirmed that more than 40 per cent of operators are looking to accelerate their expansion plans in 2018.

Commenting on the figures, James Foice, chief executive of ASAP, said: "It's fantastic to see such strong ongoing confidence in our serviced apartment sector with so many significant new openings by our operator members in 2018. It's hugely exciting to see the consumer demand for our alternative way to stay continue to increase year on year, with the significant increase in business from the leisure market now shorter lengths of stay are possible. It's tremendous to see the new development now happening in cities like Southampton and Brighton for the first time as well as in the major cities of Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and London."
