US: International Hospitality Media (IHM) has confirmed that extended stay pioneer Jack DeBoer will address the inaugural Serviced Apartment Summit Americas.

DeBoer is widely regarded as the founder of the extended stay hotel concept. He launched the Residence Inn, Summerfield Suites and Candlewood Suites which were sold to Marriott, Hyatt, and Intercontinental Hotels respectively. DeBoer also founded Value Place, a short-term apartment concept and in 2014, he founded WaterWalk Hotel Apartments, a hybrid between a hotel and an apartment. He serves as chairman of Consolidated Holdings, Inc.

DeBoer will address Summit delegates in a 30-minute session entitled “In conversation with an industry legend”.

Piers Brown, CEO of event organiser International Hospitality Media, said: “We are delighted that Jack DeBoer will be speaking at our first US conference. It seems only fitting that someone who has done so much to shape the extended stay sector should join us to share some of his experiences. Jack is clearly not one to rest on his laurels, as shown by the launch of WaterWalk, and we look forward to hearing from an industry legend.”

IHM has also announced two new sponsors for the Summit. Leading sector consulting firm The Highland Group is the event’s breakfast sponsor. The firm has published more than 80 reports on extended-stay hotels and corporate apartments since 2000 and is frequently quoted in the media. Atlanta-based InTown Suites is also on board as a sponsor. The company operates in 189 locations in 22 states, with more than 25,000 guest rooms.

“We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our latest sponsors for Serviced Apartment Summit Americas,” said Brown. “Their support is much appreciated and we look forward to helping them make new business contacts at the event.”
