In the first of a regular series, we find out what makes some of the leading figures in the serviced apartment and aparthotel sectors tick. To kick us off, we spoke to Jason Delany, director of brand, product & marketing at Staycity Group.

The best part of my job is…
Working with so many talented and wonderful people here at Staycity where I have been for the last 15 plus years. The proximity of our new offices to the local whiskey distillery isn’t a bad thing either, more so if I’m dealing with the branding of four new openings, developing a new marketing campaign for the business, and preparing a presentation for our weekly board meeting – all by 1pm!

The most challenging part of my job is…
Trying to keep on top of an ever expanding email inbox – cloning may be a possible solution here but not quite sure how that Dolly the Sheep experiment went in the end.

If I wasn’t working in our industry I would like to have been…
A sports journalist, given the high costs of subscribing to all the various sports channels I need to follow each month. I’m a great sport-lover, sadly more of a watcher than a player these days.

The best piece of advice anyone ever gave me was…
Forrest Gump – “Stupid people say stupid things!”

If I could tell my 18-year old self one thing it would be…
That Rome wasn’t built in a day and that it’s a long journey ahead so take many deep breaths as you go.

The person I admire most in hospitality is…
JW Marriott – where I found my passion for the hospitality industry while doing an internship at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel in California back in 1993/94. A truly inspiring experience, and one which set me on my journey in hospitality.

The person I admire most in history is…
Steve Jobs, as sadly I would be absolutely lost without my iPhone.

I am surprisingly good at…
Pretending not to fall asleep when I’m taken to yet another RomCom movie by the better half.

I am surprisingly bad at…
Mowing the lawn.

My perfect day off would be…
Spent back in Honolulu, where I went on my honeymoon, simply sitting back and taking it all in (with the help of one or two Pina Coladas).

Be in the know.
