• Congratulations to My Place Hotels on reaching its 40th property opening. For a brand which opened its first extended stay hotel in February 2012, to get to today’s figure in just over six years is an impressive achievement. And the company is not going to rest on its laurels, as the speed of growth is getting faster – My Place has a short-term pipeline of 75 additional hotels and mid-term commitments for upwards of 40 more.

The concept was developed by My Place co-founder and chairman Ron Rivett, who also co-founded Super 8 Motels Inc. in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1974, along with long-time friend Dennis Brown. After selling the successful Super 8 Motel system in 1993, Rivett remained in the hotel business developing, building, and operating Super 8 Motels and other branded properties as a franchisee until 2011.

My Place is the result of his applying the Super 8 principle of a “clean, comfortable room for a few bucks less than the guy next door” to the extended stay sector, and the model is proving very attractive to franchisees – and guests – across the United States.

The extended stay hotel model is one of the topics that will be discussed at next month’s Serviced Apartment Summit Europe, which takes place in London on July 10 and 11. Click here to find out more and buy tickets.
