Extended stay for EU nationals

• As a no deal Brexit becomes increasingly likely, with bookmakers this morning offering 4/6 for no Brexit deal to be reached before April 1 2019, the potential consequences of the situation are causing many businesses to re-evaluate their position and their planning.

But out of the confusion has come one piece of good news for the hospitality industry – and many other sectors – with the leak of a government briefing paper which says EU citizens already resident in the UK will be granted a unilateral right to stay in the country if there is no Brexit deal.

All 3.8 million EU citizens living in the UK will be able to remain in the country, entitling them to stay and continue to access healthcare, benefits, and pensions. It is estimated that around one in eight of all staff working in hospitality in the UK are from other EU states, and  serviced apartments and aparthotels probably have a similar ratio, if not a higher proportion of EU staff.

It is a boost to know that they will be able to carry on in the roles they love and excel in.

Be in the know.
