UK: Plans have been submitted to Birmingham City Council for the development of a 198-bed aparthotel on the site of the former Lee Longlands car park.

Called Lead Works, the project will see the construction of a 12-storey building on the corner of Granville Street and Tennant Street.

Developer Soller Group will oversee the scheme. Glancy Nicholls has designed the aparthotel, with PJ Planning providing planning consultancy services.

Proposals call for the ground and mezzanine levels to be fitted with amenity areas, common facilities and back-of-house accommodation. The upper floors will accommodate guest rooms.

A statement from PJ Planning, submitted with the application, read: “The development is shown to be an appropriate design solution for the site, demonstrating high design quality, enhancing local distinctiveness and making efficient use of a brownfield site in an accessible location, with an appropriate mix of dwellings. It ensures the revitalisation of an inner-city location in accordance with policy. This assessment shows the proposal to be acceptable in relation to the relevant current development plan policies. Consideration of the proposals in respect of material considerations similarly shows that the proposal should be supported.”
