US: TripAdvisor has bought UK-based holiday rental marketplace HouseTrip for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in London in 2010, HouseTrip grew to offer around 300,000 properties across Europe, with a small selection in North America. The company had raised approximately $60 million in funding up until 2012, with investors including Index Ventures, Balderton Capital and Accel Partners.

TripAdvisor has bought a number of vacation rental portals in the past, including HolidayLettings and Niumba.com, and HouseTrip fits this strategy. "We're committed to growing TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals and providing travelnation or budget," said Dermot Halpin, president of TripAdvisor Vacation Rentals. "HouseTrip brings valuable choices to our travellers, particularly those visiting Europe, and we're excited to continue expanding beyond the nearly 800,000 properties we list now."
