Many of the leading hotel companies have their own serviced apartment or extended stay brands, Marriott’s Executive Apartment and IHG’s Staybridge Suites for example.

In the majority of cases they are developed as standalone properties but it is intriguing to see Rezidor using its Radisson Blu brand to develop traditional hotel rooms and serviced apartments in the same project, as with the newly announced Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence, in Larnaca. It has a similar set-up at the Diplomat, a Radisson Blu branded hotel in Bahrain.

In other locations, the brand is used for traditional hotels or pure apartment projects – Dubai Marina and Istanbul for example. It will be intriguing to see which other locations Rezidor thinks are suitable for the hotel/apartments hybrid and if it will roll the model out in the future.

Next month’s Serviced Apartment Summit MEA will have a session on branded residences, hotel apartments and the various business models they operate under.
